Universities/Education

Most elementary and high schools, especially new buildings or those constructed in the last 50 years, have low-slope roofs similar to those on industrial and commercial buildings. Buildings at traditional universities, and at schools built more than 50 years ago, present the same challenges as many church structures. These include steep pitches, complicated intersections of valleys and ridges, and often require specialty roofing systems such as slate, tile or metal. Jones & Cleary employs and trains the highly skilled craftsmen needed to install these specialty systems.

The following are descriptions of some educational institution projects completed by Jones & Cleary:

Swift Hall, University of Chicago

  • 7500 square feet
  • Completely removed existing tile roof and sheet metal
  • Installed new 1" x 2" treated wood sleepers
  • Installed new tile roof system with new lead-coated copper flashings and inlaid gutter.



Loyola University Law School
Chicago, Illinois

  • 7800 square feet
  • Removed existing roof systems
  • Installed a new modified bitumen Derbigum roof system
